What Materials Would Help Plants Grow Better in Sand, Soil or Clay?
The texture of the soil that plants are grown in will determine how well they grow. All soils are naturally made up differently. According to the Soil Science Society of America, most soils contain a combination of sand, silt, clay and organic matter. Clays and organic soils hold nutrients best, whereas sandy soils tend to wash the nutrients away when the water drains from it. The soil needs to be tested to find out its pH, and then lime or fertilizer should be applied as needed, with the proper nutrients that the soil is missing. Primary Macronutrients Primary nutrients are minerals that are naturally found in different quantities in the soil. These nutrients are needed in high quantities for healthy growth and survival, according to agr.state.nc.us. When these nutrients are needed, fertilizer should be added that includes nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium, which are the three primary macronutrients needed in large quantities. Secondary Macronutrients The secondary nutrients are calc
