What materials/products are proposed to be mined?
Nicolet Minerals Company is proposing to develop and construct an underground mine to extract approximately 55 million of tons of ore. The Crandon Ore Body is comprised of two parts: zinc-rich massive ore and copper-rich stringer ore. The deposit also contains significant concentrations of lead-bearing minerals and minor amounts of silver and gold. In addition to recovering zinc, copper, and lead concentrates, Nicolet Minerals Company has also proposed to separate and recover pyrite for backfill (as a paste) in the underground mine. Ore would be crushed on-site, and metal-bearing minerals would be separated into zinc, copper, and lead concentrates, which in-turn would be transported off-site by rail for further processing at a smelter.
