Sculpture can be comprised of any number of materials, singly and collectively. The list is virtually endless; wood, stone, clay, metal to name the most common. Assemblages can be a mix of found objects. Check out Robert Raushenberg for some interesting three dimensional work. Other sculptors use wire and/or paper mache and/or even fabric. It all depends on whether or not the artist is creating additive or subtractive a.k.a. reduction pieces. Michelangelo used Carrera marble. Giacometti used a foundry to cast his metal sculptures. Henry Moore created enormous monolithic pieces out of various stone, metals like bronze and even lead, and also various wood combining some of his pieces with interesting string configurations.
