What marketing strategies are being initiated for tourism promotion?
We have classified tourism into a three fold strategy. Firstly, the focus would be religious tourism, for which we are concentrating on Amritsar. The state, with the Golden temple, Durgaina temple, Jallianwala Baag, an international airport and the attraction of Beating Retreat at Wagha Border, has all the ingredients of making it on the global map, if provided the right publicity at an international level. A huge museum of tourist interest is being developed at the Ananadpur Sahib, which is another religious centre. Our second strategy is cultural tourism, for which we are focusing on Patiala, for its rich cultural heritage. The places of interest include the Patiala Gharana with Sheesh Mahal and Fort. The last proposed strategy would be road tourism. Though unusual, we would develop a 250 kilometre four-lane stretch on GT road from Shambhu barrier to Amritsar. Right from the entry point Rajpura, we have decided to beautify the road right up to Amritsar. The goal is to picture Punjab,
