What makes Wrigley Field the friendly confines?
That’s a saying or description that goes back about 50 yrs…probably from the lips of Jack Brickhouse himself. Maybe it has to do with the vine covered outfield walls which look like they would be soft and cushiony. In reality the vines are covering a brick wall. Ticket sellers, ushers, vendors and fans were all very friendly and helpful when the club was under the ownership William Wrigley II, P.K. Wrigley and later William Wrigley III. I find the place less friendly now since the Tribune bought the Cubs and advertised, “A New Tradition.” The tradition wasn’t winning and a series of World Series pennants. It turned out to be a tradition of corporate sky boxes, more fans with dress shirts and ties than t-shirts and Cub caps. Prices have skyrocketed and neighbors with roof top views were held hostage or had their sightlines blocked. The friendly uniformed Andy Frain ushers were replaced by yellow jacketed security officers with an attitude. It has turned into a confines all right but n
