What makes “Tin-Zinc” better than cadmium (cad) or traditional zinc plating?
Several years ago the industrialized world began changing to safer and “greener” toxic free raw materials used in the production of goods. It has been a known fact that cadmium is a hazardous and highly toxic carcinogen and is right up there with the “evil” heavy metals of lead and mercury. (Nickel is not too far behind). Tin-Zinc was created in the plating industry as a replacement to cadmium plating. Tin alone is not toxic and mixed with Zinc, offers a superior corrosion resistant finish without the toxic label as associated with cadmium. Generally Tin-Zinc plating may offer up to twice the corrosion protection of cadmium and up to 5 times the protection of traditional zinc plating.
