What makes the rime of the ancient mariner a ballad?
its a variant of rhyme – which is obvious in the structure – as in it not being straight prose interestingly though – its also a frost coating that occurs against a wind – or mood which is how the mariner meets his ‘guest’. – the prevailing feeling is frivolity and clebration of a union and life and love it being an all night party and he tells this unbelievably painful story that is so at odds.
