What makes the moon turn red?

0

The moon turns red for the same (or complementary) reason hat the sky is blue. When there is almost a lunar eclipse, the moon is illuminated by light passing through the earth’s atmosphere. The atmosphere scatters shorter wavelengths (blue) so we see the sky as blue. Red light passes straight on without scattering – so only red light reaches the moon – and it looks red.
