What makes the LAWASIA Moot different from other moot court opportunities available to Loyola students?
A. There are a number of differences. First, a student need not take Appellate Advocacy (although it’s a “plus”) or compete in the Scott Moot Court competition to be eligible to be on the LAWASIA Team. Second, the LAWASIA Moot is truly an international competition with a special focus on the countries that make up the LAWASIA Region. The subject matter seems especially designed for students from the Region and involves a wide range of issues from child kidnapping to armed aggression, i.e. both public international law and private international law. What is truly unique is the range of issues used in the moot — private international law and public international law. The dispute resolution mechanims varies from year to year depending on the nature of the problem; from the International Court of Justice to private arbitration. And the location for the Moot also varies from year to year… but always in an Asian-Pacific country. Third, the LAWASIA Moot is sponsored by LAWASIA — the Law Ass
