What makes the Healthy Oceans® bag biodegradable?
Our Healthy Oceans® bags are biodegradable in controlled aerobic and anaerobic composting systems and under ideal conditions they will degrade into organic humus within 9 months. Over 90% of plastic packaging ends up in a landfill. Healthy Oceans® bags are designed to biodegrade in this environment and are made from four components: • Biodegradable cellulose derived from tree fibers. Along with being manufactured with renewable resources, coating technologies recently developed allow this material to be used on the surface or outer layer. • Healthy Oceans® bags use water based inks and adhesives in their manufacturing process, other bags use solvent based technology. Our ultra thin layers degrade along with other materials. • Biodegradable Polyethylene forms the sealant layer to resist moisture loss. A proprietary natural additive is blended during the manufacturing process to accelerate the degrading to months rather than years. • The re-sealable zipper used on our bag is also complet
