The Dual B.F.A./Ed.M. track is unique in the country. No other universities pair advanced artistry training with a masters degree in dance education and teacher certification credentialing. The Rutgers dance education degree tracks were designed to be praxis oriented and to fuse the artistry-of-teaching and the teaching-of-artistry. Theory is dovetailed with practical, hands-on experience offering students a theoretical baseline and the creative opportunity to apply theory while developing a personalized teaching repertoire. In addition to courses in education and courses in dance, the curriculum includes a series of courses dedicated to the development of pedagogical content knowledge – knowledge of the specific pedagogical issues and needs arising from dance as a distinctive subject area.
