What makes the Drexel DrNP innovative and unique?
First, while our department was the second DrNP department in the country, it is the first clinical research doctor of nursing practice and thus the only true hybrid nursing doctorate, combining clinical practice with clinical research. Because we believe that every doctorally prepared clinical nursing scholar ought to have a better grasp of global health issues, we are also the only doctoral nursing program in the country (DNP,DrNP or even PhD) that requires a 2 week study abroad program to graduate. Our department has a heavy technology focus, using smartphones, new media (the Department Chair Twitters to all doctoral students and faculty!) and other technologies and we always try to be ahead of the curve. Our students will also twice attend an intensive one week residency each summer where a Clinical Scholar-in-Residence will network with DrNP students and all doctoral faculty. We like to think that innovation is in our DNA!
