What makes the cold cranking viscosities so good in Group II+/III base oils?

Chevron Unconventional Base Oils (UCBOs) are high performance base stocks. The resistance of an oil to engine cranking at low temperatures is controlled largely by the VI of the base oil. At low temperatures, high-VI Chevron UCBOs are less viscous than conventional base oils. Our new base stock, 110RLV, is a very high-performance, optimized Group II, which is designed to provide excellent cold cranking for North American 5W-XX formulations and many others.
