What makes the alliance different from other initiatives addressing biomedical research?
The alliance is different from other initiatives in a number of ways. First, the goal of the alliance is not to advocate on any issue related to the funding and conduct of biomedical research. Rather, the alliance provides a forum for a productive dialogue on the shared issues that threaten the advancement of biomedical research. The alliance is also unique in that it does not represent the views of any one sector. Instead, the alliance is intended as a neutral and transparent forum for discussion, debate, information sharing and consensus-building among all relevant constituencies, including academic researchers and government scientists; medical school administrators, faculty, and students; research and professional societies; biomedical journal editors, physicians, pharmacists; patient advocates, and members of industry.
