What makes teacher education at Roger Williams different from other schools?
Our mission: We seek to educate reflective leaders whose practice is grounded in a commitment to social justice, civil discourse, global citizenship, and educational excellence for all students. This mission permeates courses and field experiences, classroom interactions, and relations among students, faculty, administrators, staff, and field-based cooperating practitioners. Our curriculum: teacher preparation at RWU is based on: • A commitment to the University’s core beliefs and School of Education’s mission; • The belief that all school children can learn and achieve; • A commitment to a developmental approach to the education of both K-12 students and prospective teachers; • The belief that critical reflection about real teaching tasks is essential to teacher development; and • The belief that prospective teachers learn to teach by connecting classroom discussions of theory and pedagogy with experiences they have in classrooms and community settings.
