What makes quick sand sink????
Quicksand is the result of gentle water flow up through the sand bed, so that in the extreme, it looks dry on top. Normally, it looks like a puddle or mushy spot. Because the water is moving, the sand is not resting on itself and if a person or animal steps into the thing, the weight on the foot drives it down into the mush. But unlike a mud wallow, you can’t move your leg aside and get air to the bottom to release the leg – the sloppy wet sand flows too quickly – so jerking with a leg tends to pull a person in. But the sand/water mix is much denser than water, so the proper response is to throw yourself back so you are laying on the surface and wait or very slowly encourage your leg to float to the surface. If you want, you can make quicksand by cutting the bottom off a 2 liter bottle, attaching a hose to the neck, and filling it half or more full of sand. Support it neck down and turn on the water gently and you will have a firm bed that suddenly no longer support a fist put on the s
