What makes old people lose their hearing?
When old people lose their hearing, it’s called presbycusis. It happens to all people with age, also called age-related hearing loss. It is caused by inner ear trauma from loud noises during your lifetime. This damage is cumulative (think ear buds, loud car stereo and high volume gaming) and it is irreversible. So if you take better care of your ears and not attend to too many live concerts or too loud music, you can delay the hearing loss until you’re really old.
