What makes it different from other file sharing services (i.e. iPhoto, Flickr, WebShots, Kodak EasyShare Gallery, etc.)?
The Media Manager development team evaluated several existing digital media collection software applications/services before finally deciding to develop a product internally. The main features that set this project apart include: • Sharing Many tools to organize digital media files on one’s own computer exist and are used across campus. These tools fall short when it comes to sharing one’s files with students and colleagues at OSU and beyond. The Media Manager was designed to make sharing easy. • Security Individuals should have the ability to enable/disable access to their collections as they see fit. The Media Manager puts this power in each user’s hands. • Easy Permissions It should be easy for someone to give OSU people access to their collections — be they individual colleagues, research assistants or students enrolled in a course — without having to manage logins/passwords for them. Furthermore, it should be easy to make collections available to research partners outside of OSU
