What makes good reflective writing?
As a Bachelor of Environments student you’ll be asked to think and write in a reflective way. Reflective writing is used in B Envs because it helps you think about and improve your practice in all areas of the degree. This means going beyond the visual and physical aspects of the observed environments in order to show an active engagement with broader issues addressed in the subject. It means being able to respond to your own and others’ designs. It also means developing skills in thinking about the way you think and why you think the way you do. Try the following activity as a starting point to help you develop this skill. Read this sample, adapted from a student’s Urban Environments reflective journal, and decide what is ineffective about the text.
