What makes clouds move faster?
When clouds are moving rather fast in a single direction it likely means that a mass of air is moving into an area from a different region, often in the direction of prevailing winds. However, fast moving clouds may be part of a rotating low pressure system (counterclockwise in the northern hemisphere) so wide that from below the clouds seem to be moving in a single direction. Somewhat stationary clouds are likely being generated by rising heat and moisture from the area directly below the clouds. Often clouds at different elevations are moving at different speeds and even in different directions.
