What makes astrology work?
How astrology works is different than how we’re accustomed to thinking of it, and is particularly difficult for people educated in Western culture with its basic assumptions about reality. There is causation, but not cause and effect in the sense of gravity causing an apple to fall from a tree. In other words, there is no material substance causing an effect in history or in an individual’s life. The world view of astrology is that there is no radical separation between subject and object, that psyche and cosmos are interconnected, and that the manifested universe and human beings are a reflection of archetypes, or universal and creative principles, embodied in the 12 signs and planets. So, one’s character and destiny, and the events in one’s life are expressive of whatever archetypes are activated at the time of one’s birth or during the course of one’s life.
Astrology reflects that we live on a planet in a solar system. The Earth is part of the Sun s family, a unique cell of space in the boundless universe. Each planet is unique in its size, orbit, speed, angle, moons, chemistry and electromagnetic vibration. For over a billion years they have been orbiting our Sun, the radiant source of light and electro-magnetism that holds our solar system together. We are born into this system of electro-magnetism. At birth we leave the watery world of the womb, have our lungs blasted open with our first breath and are imprinted by the atmosphere. Like the first ripple of a stone tossed in water, the rest of life follows from that first moment.
