What makes an efficient plant layout?
Layout planning, balance and communication will develop into an efficient plant layout. Every plants layout will be different, and each plant layout is important. Here are some important considerations when determining what your next plant layout is going to be: 1.) The plant engineer should understand the products manufacturing methodology. To do this, you should be aware of the Bill of Material (BOM) for each part. 2.) How should the employees make the product? A systematic manufacturing process or routing schedule needs to be developed. 3.) What are the items that make up 70 to 80 percent of your sales? Stay focused as to how to make these items in the most efficient manner possible. 4.) Inventory your machinery and location of support equipment, i.e., dust collection, electrical, plumbing, steam, etc. 5.) Determine the cost of moving any of the equipment.
