What Makes A Womens Snowshoe Unique?
A real growth segment of the snowshoe industry has been the increased number of women who have begun to enjoy this activity. Women’s snowshoes are typically different than men’s in several ways: Size: Most women are smaller and lighter than men and therefore don’t require as big a snowshoe. The development of the 21 inch and 25 inch snowshoe models was driven by the increased number of women who are now snowshoeing. Shape: A woman’s stride is different than a mans…typically women take shorter strides than men. To accommodate this difference women’s snowshoe models tend to be narrower and more tapered towards the tail of the snowshoe. This combination promotes a more comfortable ‘nesting’ of the snowshoes while walking. With the tapered tails there is less tendency for the snowshoer to be stepping on their snowshoe tails while walking…thereby there is less potential for falling.
