What makes a great guitarist?
That’s subjective. But, a great guitarist is someone who brings something unique to the table…who brings out personality on the guitar…who can play what he sets out to play in his mind. Can you explain the guitarist’s need for speed? I’m not really sure why guitarists want to play fast. Maybe youngsters measure their learning of the guitar in terms of how fast they can play the instrument. Sometimes, that is true. But, people must realise that it’s not all about playing fast and there are other aspects to music. The electric guitar is a relatively new instrument when compared to other musical instruments. It is still a developing instrument. Shredding is a relatively new concept for the electric guitar. Players of other instruments (e.g. saxophone) have been playing fast for a long time.
