What makes a great artist(painter)?
It takes great skill and concentration as well as emotion to paint anything well. Ive probably been more amazed by landscapes than portraits, pictures where the technique is apparent up close, but further back you would swear it was dirt or bark or whatever. The technique is hardest to master and a great painter has mastered his technique. someone who uses the paint cleverly and can flick it and roll it here and there to achieve the result. Probably if a person chooses landscapes or seascapes or whatever ,it doesnt mean they cant do portraits, just means they are inspired by their subject.
