What makes a good licensee and how are licensees selected?
One of the main goals of the technology transfer staff is the dissemination of knowledge and technology developed by researchers at UT Southwestern, and the selection of the most effective licensee is critical to this goal. Effectiveness is measured by various standards which include but are not limited to the following: are the strategic strengths of the prospective licensee a “good fit” for the technology?; is the prospective licensee willing to work with the university in a good faith manner?; how do the officers and researchers of the prospective licensee interact with the technology transfer staff and more importantly, the inventor(s)?; and is the prospective licensee technologically and financially capable of meeting the terms of a license agreement?
