Generic drugs are just like name brand drugs and can be more cheap than using your insurance company. They are a duplicate version of the drug which is usually manufactured by drug companies that specifically deal with making generic drugs. If the original manufacture puts a patent on a drug they will be the only ones permitted to sell the drug. The patent will expire at a point and when it does other manufactures can duplicate the drug and sell it at a better price than the brand name version. Generic drugs and name brand drugs are the exact same. Generic drugs use the same ingredients and have the same medical effects when used at the same dosage. A name brand drug is the same as a generic drug because when it is produced is it required to be an exact duplicate of the original drug. This must include the same ingredients and will also produce the same medical effects when taken at the proper dosage. Some drugs aren’t available in the generic form.
