What makes a drink dirty, i.e. a dirty martini?
A “dirty martini” contains a splash of olive juice. It’s actually quite tasty, for the same reasons that we put olives in martinis. I’ve never heard of adding olive juice to anything except a gin or vodka martini, though, and I don’t think it would go over well in an appletini. Other recipes with “dirty” in the name are usually an allusion to having an alcoholic drink in a flavor you associate with something else, like the “Dirty Girl Scout” which tastes like Thin Mints cookies. (I suppose you could also pour olive juice on a Girl Scout.
