What makes a Digital Copier different? What are its advantages?
Unlike a lens and mirror optical system used in conventional analog copiers, a digital scanner is used to capture the original’s image. The image is scanned using a charged-couple device (CCD), like those found in facsimiles and then stored in memory for multiple copies. The advantages of a digital copier include its Recirculating Document Handler (RDH) emulation – that is, its ability to make multiple sets from a single scan. As a result a finisher is used instead of a sorter thus eliminating the restriction of the number of bins as a copy limit. Additional benefits include improved image quality, particularly for photographs and gray-scale or colour originals. Users can also expect increased reliability and reduced noise levels with digital copiers.
