What makes a Baseball Glove “Better” or more expenive than Another?
Normally, the more expensive the glove, the higher the quality of the leather and stitching material. Better quality leather will conform to the shape of your hand as you break it in, making it “fit like a glove.” Cheaper gloves that use low quality leather or vinyl never really “break in” right. When they’re brand new it feels like you’re grabbing at the ball with barbecue tongs. When they do get softer, they end up “floppy” like an old oven mitt. Since it’s all about “feel” I suggest trying on a bunch at stores first and narrowing it down. Then you can go on-line and find some deals. If you’re getting a glove you plan on keeping long-term, make sure you get one that’s leather inside and out (many cheap gloves use plastic liners on the inside). Stick your hand in it and then “flick” the palm and fingers with your other hand. The leather should be thick enough so that you barely feel it inside. Treat it right and a good glove will last you twenty years or more.
