The toilet cleaner contains sodium hypochlorite NaOCl which reacts with the aluminium foil to give hydrochloric acid gas (I think) The other great experiment to do is to (carefully) add some hot water to caustic soda (drain cleaner) in a bucket and add aluminium foil- you get hydrogen gas.
