Do not use lubes that contain oils, natural, animal, vegetable, or synthetic. All varieties of oil are bad for the insert material and will cause it to break down rapidly over a few days of exposure. I also recommend avoiding silicone based lubes. While these lubes do not damage the insert material, they are extremely difficult to clean off properly, and they provide a hiding place for organic materials to remain inside the insert after use and cleaning.
