What liquor licence applications are affected?
• New liquor licences for hotels, general bars, registered clubs, public entertainment venues (nightclubs), liquor stores or producer/wholesaler cannot be granted for premises located in the freeze precincts during the period of the freeze. Also, some licences cannot be relocated into a freeze precinct. • Liquor licence applications for restaurants and certain other premises such as cinemas and cafes in freeze precincts can continue to be made. • Applications for permanent extensions of liquor trading hours cannot be approved in the freeze precincts. Temporary extensions (such as for special occasions) and changes to licence conditions and boundaries are subject to new controls to prevent an increase in the number of people who enter the precincts to consume alcohol, or an increase in the patron capacity of the premises. • The amendments also prevent the grant of certain development consents by the Council of the City of Sydney.
