What limitations are there on access to student records by teachers or staff?
Teachers and staff should only access student records on a need to know basis. All staff and teachers should be made aware of the “need to know” requirement and the consistent use provisions when accessing student records. The Act permits the Calgary Board of Education to disclose the personal information of an individual to an employee or officer of the Calgary Board of Education if it is necessary for the performance of their duties. If a parent provides consent, however, those persons to whom the consent is given may access the records.
