As with 50cc petrol scooters, the e1 can be driven from the age of 16 but you will need a motorcycle licence or CBT (certificate of basic competence). However, if over 17 years old and you obtained your car driving licence before 1st February 2001 you do not need a CBT. If you do not have a full licence you will need to display L-plates. e1+, e3 & e5 – Can be driven from the age of 17, you will need a motorcycle licence or a CBT, if you do not have a full motorcycle licence you will need to display L-plates.
