What leads to crusty scalp?
Some people have particularly oily scalp and in these cases there is an increased possibility of the scalp not being completely clean. This leaves the hair follicles vulnerable to bacterial and fungal infections. Sometimes when people wash their hair and do not completely rinse off the shampoo that also leads to a residual accumulation on the surface of the scalp. This mixes with the normal amount of dead cells in the scalp and becomes a layer of white flakes. Sometimes the flakes are thin and papery while at other times they are thicker and can even become very attached to the scalp. This problem is usually accompanied by itchiness of the scalp. Crusty scalp is not a critical health problem but like many skin problems it can cause emotional and psychological trauma along with physical discomfort. It can be a constant source of stress and anxiety for patients and depending on the level of the crustiness or flakiness, it can be a distraction in professional and social settings. There ma
