What lead up to the declaration of independence?

To begin with the colonies were over taxed. This in part led to an incident in Boston where British troops opened fire on unarmed protesters (of coarse no one mentions that the protesters were throwing rocks and bottles at the Brits). With a little leg work I’m sure you could find at least a dozen little incidents like that which you could say led to it, but what is comes down to is, people getting fed up with the rule of a totalitarian king who cared little about his subjects, especially those that lived outside of his actual borders.
