What lasting infuence did tne Roman Empire have on European life?
besides the other good answers, the most lasting influence Rome had on Europe was its own collapse, both politically and economically. Due to political collapse the empire no longer had the ability to control and support its wide spreading military movement. When the empire collapsed it sent Europe into the dark ages, a time when the middle East became the center of knoledge as it once had been before the expansion of the Roman Empire. The spred of the middle eastern cultures spred as far as Souther Spain while the Moors occupied that area. While Southern Spain flourished, the rest of Europe was in squallor, even though the Romans built many aquaducts, even in England during their occupation there. So while the Roman Empire was good for Rome, its demise influenced Europe negatively far greater than any improvements, until the renaissance, that is, when Europe came out of the dark ages.
