Italian is the most spoken language in Italy and it is the official language. German is spoken in Trentino-Alto Adige and in some areas of Piedmont (ex: the Walser community in Valsesia) but it’s common in the lake area too (especially nearby Lake Orta and Lake Maggiore because in summer they’re full of German tourists). French is spoken in Aosta Valley and in some areas of Piedmont (especially near the border line with France). Slovene is common in Friuli Venezia Giulia (near the border line with Slovenia). Latin isn’t spoken in Italy but it’s taught in some schools (Linguistic High School, Scientific High School and Classic High School). Greek is spoken in some areas of Apulia. And there are loads of dialects i every region of Italy, but they can be different in every town! (ex: veneto, toscano, piemontese, lombardo, emiliano, romano, siciliano, napoletano, pugliese, calabrese, abruzzese, sardo, ligure, aostano, friulano, campano, lucano, marchigiano, altoatesino…
