Mainly English – there are small sections in Xhosa and Swedish. Is everyone on stage Swedish, or is anyone from South Africa as well? When the work was performed in Sweden, we used a Swedish Chorus and South African chorus, with half Swedish soloists and SA soloists. Now that the production is in South Africa we have SA chorus (white people) singing the role of the Swedish Chorus and a chorus of Xhosa singers. The soloists are the originals and three of them come from Sweden. Are there records, or Lidner writings pointing to him meeting a Xhosa woman, like in the Opera? None whatsoever. This is pure fiction! How does it feel to get to bring this Swedish Opera to Cape Town? Wonderful to have Mats Larsson Gothe’s music in South Africa. Who do you think will be the audience – will it be different, similar (i.e. new opera goers, any schools booked etc.) to your normal audience?
