What Language Is Spoken On Pitcairn Island?
Tahitian language is the first language of the population and is taught along with English being the second language. Pitcairn is basically a Creole language derived from English language in the eighteenth century. Creole language is a well-defined and stable language that has its origin from a non-trivial combination of two languages, with many features that are not inherited from family members. This language evolved from pidgins, and have become the native language of a community. Even the culture of the Pitcairns have been enormously influenced by the mingling of the tahitian and the english population. The Pitcairn residents descended from the Bounty and are probably a mix of Caucasian and Polynesian stock. The high rate of this inter- relation is a cause for the mixing of languages.
