What language is spoken in switzerland?
German (Swiss German), French (federal French), Italian, Rhaetro Romantsch, and when they all get together (e.g. country-wide meetings of telecommunications companies) English, but English is not an official language. Romantsch is spoken in the south east part of the country. I’m really intrigued to know just where Luxembourg borders on Switzerland!
There is a part of the country that speaks French, another part that speaks Italian, another part (the biggest) that speaks German, and a small part that speaks Rumantsch. In the German speaking part, each “canton”, which is a bit like a “region”, or you could say a “county”, speaks a slightly different dialect, all variations of the German language. The dialects are called schwiitzertütsch, and the “proper” German is called “Hochdeutch”.
