Chickens will eat almost any kitchen scraps! They are omnivorous, eating a wide range of both plant and animal foods. If you ever watch free-range chickens, they will scratch up bugs and worms to eat, as well as eating grass, weeds, flowers, veggies, etc. I give my chickens (and ducks and geese) fruit and veggie peels & scraps, egg shells, stale bread, leftovers of various sorts including rice, pasta, cooked vegetables, casseroles, etc. I don’t give them fresh onions or avocado; I compost those. (Avocado is toxic to some birds; I’ve never heard of a chicken being harmed by it, but I don’t take chances. I have heard that onions can taint the taste of the egg, and while I don’t know if that’s true, I just don’t give it to them.) You should also feed them a good quality feed mix which is blended specifically to promote healthy egg layers. The feed stores usually have several different varieties. I would suggest that you consider the egg layer feed as the primary food and the kitchen scrap
