What kinds of waste does Lek “produce”?
Lek does not produce waste materials such as pesticides, heavy metals or radioactive substances, which are highly hazardous to people and the environment. Waste materials produced in the manufacture of pharmaceutical ingredients are soluble waste materials, different residues, side products resulting from ingredients synthesis, and other substances such as active charcoal and the remnants of distillation procedures. In the biosynthetic manufacture of active ingredients, the main waste material is biomass, which does not pose environmental hazards. The end products of pharmaceutical manufacturing (such as tablets, capsules, suppositories, syrups, ointments, syringes and the like) produce very small amounts of waste. Most waste in this stage of manufacture are parts of the finished product, for instance damaged tablets, leftover ingredients (raw materials) and dust on suction filters. A large volume of waste material comes from products with passed expiration dates. In most cases, the pa
