What kinds of techniques are readers going to find in Fighting in the Clinch?
Mark Mireles: This book examines infighting from a street-fighting perspective. Loren and I study martial arts for self-preservation. We’re street-based martial artists, if you will. One of the main motivations for writing Fighting in the Clinch was that there are very few books that solely address the clinch, and this is the first book that examines clinching from a pure self-defense perspective. Fighting in the Clinch takes the reader through every conceivable position in the infight. We designed this book to take advantage of both of our strengths: I deal with all the street-wrestling positions and attacks, and Loren examines the infight from a striker’s perspective. This book deals with every fighting position for when you are close enough to reach out and touch an attacker or vice versa. PP: How do you define “the clinch”? MM: The clinch is a standing transitional position that occurs in fighting. It is not a finishing moveāit is a position to move from to a more dominant position
