What kinds of skills do opera singers need?
Sight reading music, acting, vocal training (males need high notes as much, if not more than, females), music history, languages (italian, german and french are the major operatic languages, but spanish, chzek, russian, and many others are used), diction, business…. I agree that almost everyone has the native capacity to sing, but to sing opera, you will need a great deal of determination, an extra dose of native talent, the right teacher (very important), and a lot of training.
