What kinds of questions are in standardized tests?
There are two different kinds of standardized tests. Achievement tests measure subject-specific knowledge. These tests usually only require basic knowledge of facts (i.e. the definition of a certain word). Aptitude tests assess your child’s ability to learn, by asking that your child use skills such as reasoning or problem-solving. For example, these tests may require that a child read a short story, process the information, and then make a logical inference. Because of their uniform nature, both of these tests are usually comprised of multiple choice questions. Occasionally, an essay is required as well.
