What kinds of prevention research would be eligible for the research grants program? Will there be a separate study section for prevention research grants in the research program?
There is no restriction on the type of research that can be supported by CPRIT other than it must be relevant to cancer. Proposals will be evaluated based on their significance and importance, as well as their feasibility, the qualifications of the investigator(s), etc. The CPRIT research grants program will not have a separate study section for prevention research, at least initially. Applications will be reviewed by the relevant peer review groups. Reviewers with expertise in prevention research are being recruited to the peer review committees. Depending on the number and type of applications received, additional reviewers with targeted expertise can be recruited.
