What kinds of jobs are available in the turf management industry?
A. It’s neat to see the number of career paths that our students are currently taking. While the majority of our students evolve into positions of superintendents or assistant superintendents we have some who have gone into sales. They have gone to work for the seed companies, irrigation companies, pesticide companies, and fertilizer companies that support the golf turf complex. They have gone to athletic field management. We have many crossover students, one currently at Yankee stadium and many others serving in positions of leadership of major professional athletic complexes throughout the United States. We even have one candidate who is the director of infields for NASCAR and maintains the grounds on NASCAR’s Midwest circuit. We have students who have gone into teaching as a result. Of course from the early days we have a multitude of alums who are running landscape activities throughout New Jersey and even some of our current grads decide that the stress of a golf course leadership
