What kinds of improvements for trade in services are included in Canada’s revised GATS Offer?
Canada’s revised GATS offer includes improvements in sectors such as professional services including legal services, accounting services and engineering services; courier services; financial services; tourism and travel services; and transport services. In addition, Canada’s revised offer includes improvements which relate to the ability of foreign service suppliers to establish a commercial presence in Canada and to the temporary entry of foreign service suppliers. Together, Canada’s initial and revised offers put Canada on solid ground to pursue its market access interests in the negotiations. If other countries come up to Canada’s level of openness we will have made significant progress in the negotiations. Such progress would help Canadian service providers, in fields such as financial services, computer services, and environmental services, to more effectively compete in countries around the world.
